Sacred Plant Medicine
The Art of Ceremonial Cacao
Heart-opening. Handcrafted in Guatemala. Used in ceremony for thousands of years.
What is Ceremonial Cacao?
For over 4,000 years, cacao has been revered as sacred medicine. The ancient Maya called it kakaw — the "Food of the Gods." Unlike processed cocoa or chocolate, ceremonial grade cacao is minimally processed, preserving the full spectrum of heart-opening compounds: theobromine, anandamide, PEA, and magnesium.
Where regular chocolate is roasted at high temperatures, alkalised, and mixed with sugar and dairy, ceremonial cacao is gently toasted and stone-ground — nothing added, nothing removed. The result is a rich, complex elixir that nourishes body and spirit.

Every batch of Keith's Cacao is hand-toasted, hand-peeled, and double-inspected — a level of care that ensures consistency others simply can't match. The beans are 100% Criollo, the rarest and most prized cacao variety.
Keith's relationship with the local farming families spans two decades. Over 30 families are directly supported, with fair wages and sustainable growing practices at the heart of every harvest.
The Experience
Ceremonial cacao works differently from coffee or regular chocolate. Its primary active compound is theobromine — a gentle, long-lasting stimulant that opens blood vessels and increases blood flow to the heart, creating a warm, expansive sensation without the jitters.
Combined with anandamide (the "bliss molecule"), PEA (the "love chemical"), and over 100mg of magnesium per serving, cacao creates a unique state of focused calm and emotional openness.
At Alchemy Sound Studio, we pair ceremonial cacao with sound healing to deepen the experience. The heart-opening qualities of cacao create the perfect foundation for crystal singing bowls and vocal toning — allowing sound to move through an open, receptive body.

Cocoa is heavily processed — roasted at high temperatures, alkalised ("Dutch processed"), and often mixed with sugar and dairy. Ceremonial cacao is minimally processed: gently toasted, stone-ground, and sold as a pure paste with nothing added or removed. This preserves the full spectrum of beneficial compounds including theobromine, anandamide, and magnesium.
A full ceremonial dose is 28g (about 1 oz). This is the amount used in traditional cacao ceremonies and sound healing sessions. For a gentler daily practice, use 14g (half a dose). Start with the lower dose if you're new to ceremonial cacao.
Yes! Many people enjoy a daily cacao practice with a half dose (14g). It's a beautiful way to start the morning with intention. At full ceremonial dose (28g), most people use it 2–3 times per week. Listen to your body — cacao is a plant medicine that works best when approached with awareness.
Less than 5mg per 28g serving — roughly the same as a cup of decaf coffee. The primary stimulant in cacao is theobromine, not caffeine. Theobromine provides gentle, sustained energy without the spike and crash of caffeine. Most people can enjoy cacao in the evening without affecting sleep.
At a full ceremonial dose (28g), one bar provides approximately 16 ceremonies. At a daily dose (14g), it lasts about 32 days — roughly one month of daily practice.
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. There's no need to refrigerate. Keith's Cacao has a long shelf life due to its low moisture content. If you notice a white film on the surface, this is cocoa butter bloom — completely normal and does not affect quality or taste.
